Basford to publish two new colouring books with PRH

Johanna Basford is set to publish two new colouring books in 2016 with Virgin Books, a division of Ebury at Penguin Random House UK.

The two new "inky imagined worlds" are Magical Jungle and Johanna's Christmas.

Magical Jungle offers a world of flora and fauna wherein lies "an exotic rainforest teeming with creatures large and small", including "speckled tree frogs and dainty hummingbirds, prowling tigers and curious monkeys" according to the publisher. Meanwhile, through Basford's intricate pen and ink illustrations, Johanna's Christmas includes "flurries of delicate snowflakes, to deliciously decorated gingerbread houses and reindeer-led sleighs" as a celebration of the holiday season. The books will be released on 25th August and 27th October 2016, respectively.

PRH will be publishing the books under Virgin Books in the UK and under Penguin in the US.

Basford, who is also published with Laurence King, is an illustrator who "prefers pens and pencils to pixels" and has sold over 16m copies of her books worldwide.

She said: "I’m so excited to be working on two new books this year with Penguin Random House. It’s the biggest honour to have my inky imagined worlds brought to life by colourists around the globe, a chance to collaborate with literally millions of people! I create books so they can make masterpieces."

Elen Jones, Virgin Books editor, said: "We are so proud to publish Johanna and thrilled with the success of Lost Ocean. We are very excited to continue our creative collaboration with two new colouring book adventures this year."

Penguin Books executive editor Meg Leder added: "From mysterious jungles to the warmth of the holiday season, we’re honoured to bring more of Johanna’s beautiful, intricate vision to her legions of fans."

Basford's previous bestselling books are Lost Ocean (Virgin Books), Secret Garden (Laurence King) and Enchanted Forest (Laurence King) which have each sold millions worldwide and are published in over 30 territories. Basford is a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee.
