Quadrille is to publish tie-ins to two autumn TV series, both acquired by editorial director Jane O’Shea in "competitive auctions" from Julian Alexander at LAW.
The Genius of Design (4th September, hb, £25) is written by academic Penny Sparke, and accompanies the BBC2 series of five hour-long episodes. The programme is made by Wall to Wall, the production company behind recent BBC2 series "The Genius of Photography".
It includes 200 colour photographs and drawings and looks at the history of design from the mid-19th century, encompassing themes such as mass production and the legacy of war-time design, and including stories behind iconic designs such as the first fitted kitchen and the Biro.
Quadrille is also publishing The Landscape Man’s Guide to Garden Design by Matthew Wilson, whom the publisher has described as "likely to become as well known as the likes of Kevin McCloud". The title (4th September, hb, £20) accompanies a prime-time series on Channel 4 of six hour-long episodes, teaching viewers how to translate landscape projects featured in the series into their own gardens. Wilson has appeared on BBC’s "Gardeners’ World" and writes about gardening for Country Life, the Daily Telegraph and the Guardian.
