Scholastic US has bought the North American rights to The Adventures of John Blake: Mystery of the Ghost Ship, the graphic novel by Philip Pullman and Fred Fordham.
Scholastic struck the deal with David Fickling Books (DFB), which acquired world rights from Caradoc King of AP Watt at United Agents earlier this year.
The Adventures of John Blake: The Mystery of the Ghost Ship introduces readers to John Blake and “The Mary Alice”, “a ship hidden by the mists of time”. When a storm hits, Blake rescues a young girl thrown overboard from a yacht and tries to return her to her own time zone, endangering the ship and all aboard it.
DFB announced they were publishing the book, which is currently appearing as a weekly comic strip in The Phoenix Comic, at the www.thebookseller.com/news/illustrated-pullman-dfb-325676">Bologna Book Fair in April.
Scholastic will publish in the US and Canada as part of its Graphix imprint in spring 2017, the same time as DFB in the UK.
David Saylor, founder and editorial director of Graphix, said: “What an honour to welcome the brilliant storyteller Philip Pullman to the Graphix list. And to partner with The Phoenix and David Fickling Books – publishers at the forefront of creating acclaimed comics and books for young readers in the UK – makes this collaboration even more exciting."
