Puffin is to publish six classic titles from its backlist, which have been ‘re-imagined’ by leading cultural figures and designers.
The launch forms part of Puffin’s 70th birthday celebrations which also includes a hunt for the UK’s favourite Puffin story.
The Designer Puffin Classics titles will each be sold for £100 and only 1,000 of each title will be produced.
The books will include: James and the Giant Peach by British sculptor Antony Gormley; Little Women by fashion designer Orla Kiely; Oliver Twist by artist Sir Peter Blake; The Secret Garden by author and illustrator, Lauren Child; Treasure Island by architect and sculptor Frank Gehry; and Around the World in Eighty Days by Ghanian architect David Adjaye. The designers chose the book they wanted to work on.
The six titles will be available from 2nd September 2010 and each book will come packaged in a Perspex slipcase.
Next month Puffin will mark the re-launch its Puffin Modern Classics with a vote for the public’s all-time favourite Puffin of Puffins. Seven modern classics, one from each decade of Puffin’s 70 years, will be included in the vote to find the Puffin of Puffins.
