Puffin has acquired world rights, including film and TV, in a dystopian romance series Fever by debut author Dee Shulman. The publisher will be showcasing the trilogy at Bologna Children's Book Fair next week and has already had pre-emptive bids.
The story is based around a love affair between a young gladiator from AD 152 and a teenage girl from 2012, who are brought together by a virus that enables them to time travel.
Shannon Park, executive editor for Puffin, said: "This is a book that will tap into the dystopian romance trend but, although the romance is the heart of the story, an addictive thriller is played out across the course of the trilogy."
Michelle Paver will also be attending Bologna for Puffin to present her new five-book series to international publishers. Gods & Warriors is set in the Mediterranean Bronze Age and follows the story of a young boy and girl thrown into battle.
Other fiction Puffin is taking includes YA novel Three Little Words (Razorbill) and young fiction series The Wrong Pong by Steven Butler in which Puffin has film, TV and world rights. The Wrong Pong: Holiday Hullabaloo is published in August 2011.
