UK publishers' sales of books declined by 0.5% in the first nine months of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009, with volume sales also falling by almost 4%.
Sales of books declined from £1,721m in September 2009 to £1,712m in September 2010, according to statistics from the PA Sales Monitor. Volume sales decreased by 3.9% from 466m to 448m units.
Home sales were down 4.8% by volume, from 271m to 257m, and down 2.7% by value, from £999m to £972m.
Despite a 2.1% dip in export volume sales, from 195m to 191m, the value of exports grew by 2.6%, from £722m to £740m.
