Publishers, help us make this a 'reading Christmas', say booksellers

Booksellers are relying on support and innovation from publishers to help drive sales this year, as the industry's retailers urge the public to shop locally. 

In a panel event hosted by author Cathy Rentzenbrink as part of The Bookseller's FutureBook conference, booksellers urged publishers to "have open conversations" and work closely with them to drive sales over Christmas.

Martin Latham, of Waterstones Canterbury, suggested publishers should "list the series in the back of the book if it is part of one, and stop concentrating so much on new titles—look at your backlist."
