Publishers fail at ‘curating content’

Traditional publishers are not succeeding at curating content, delegates at “The Great Debate: The Fight for Survival” at this week's London Book Fair heard, with representatives from digital start-ups arguing this failure will ultimately cause publishers to be sidelined.

Wattpad co-founder Allen Lau argued that the internet, through social media and self-publishing sites, has replaced publishers as a means of selecting content, saying: “Publishers are not doing a very good job of curating content, and the internet will come in and do that job.”
