Psychovertical by Andy Kirkpatrick (Hutchinson) has won the 2008 Boardman Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature.
The prize, worth £3,000, commemorates the lives of authors and mountaineers Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker, who disappeared on Mount Everest in 1982. It is given to "the author or co-authors of an original work which has made an outstanding contribution to mountain literature".
The other shortlisted titles were Fallen Giants, by Maurice Isserman and Stewart Weaver (Yale University Press); The Eiger Obsession by John Harlin III (Hutchinson); Cham by Jonathan Trigell (Serpent's Tail); Ararat by Frank Westerman (Harvill Secker).
