Avon Books will publish a debut psychological thriller about a woman whose baby is taken.
Senior commissioning editor Helen Huthwaite acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to Little Girl Gone by Alexandra Burt from Laura Longrigg at MBA Literary Agents in a one-book deal, with an option of a second book once complete.
Little Girl Gone follows Estelle Paradise, who fails to report her baby missing when the child is taken from her crib.
A week later, Estelle is found in a wrecked car with a gunshot wound and no memory. She knows she holds the key to what happened that night – but what she doesn’t know is whether she was responsible.
Huthwaite said: “Every so often, a book comes along that has ‘bestseller’ written all over it. This is that book. It’s a stunning debut with a narrator so unreliable, she’s up there with Amy Dunne. This is truly Gone Girl meets Before I Go to Sleep territory – a remarkable psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end. It’s destined for the top of the charts and I can’t wait to get it into readers’ hands.”
Avon Books will publish in September 2015.
