Alison Alexanian is to join Profile Books as publicity director in September, a job she will share with current director Hannah Ross.
Alexanian is currently head of campaigns and media relations at Hurst Publishers, where she oversees all publicity activity. Her noteworthy campaigns include Work Won’t Love You Back by Sarah Jaffe, Inglorious Empire by Shashi Tharoor and The Northumbrians by Dan Jackson. She was previously publicity manager at Pluto Press, covering titles such as Curationism by David Balzer and Rebel Footprints by David Rosenberg.
Her publicity career began at Penguin where for Portfolio (now Penguin Business/Penguin Life) she worked on the UK launch for Brené Brown with her book, Daring Greatly and In My Shoes by Tamara Mellon. Before that, she was an assistant editor for Columbia University Press in New York.
She said: "As a longtime fan of Profile—their independent spirit, outstanding list, and enviable roster of authors—I'm thrilled to be joining their superb publicity team. I am especially excited by this unique opportunity to co-lead the team with Hannah Ross, working closely with her to deliver unmissable campaigns."
Ross will return from parental leave on 12th July, after publishing a book on women’s cycling, Revolutions, for Weidenfeld & Nicolson. Alexanian begins at Profile on 1st September. Each will work three days a week, with an overlap day on Wednesdays.
She said: "I’m excited to be embarking on a jobshare and very much welcome the experience and energy Alison will bring to this joint role. She has delivered remarkable campaigns for Hurst and I look forward to us working together to do the same at Profile."
Andrew Franklin, m.d., said: "I am very proud that we are embarking on a jobshare between an extraordinarily brilliant pair of women in such an important role. These are two exceptional people and we are lucky to have them both running our stellar publicity campaigns and team."
