Chicken House will publish a teen novel about Lydia, the naughty younger sister in Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice, written by Natasha Farrant.
Lydia: the Bad Bennet Girl, to be released next year, is described as the perfect way to introduce teenagers to the original novel, as Farrant has “brought a modern yet fiercely authentic voice to the original wild child of romantic fiction”, said the publisher.
Chicken House bought world rights from Catherine Clarke at Felicity Bryan Associates and will publish in February 2016. US rights have already been sold to Scholastic.
Farrant (pictured with Chicken House m.d. Barry Cunningham) is the author of several children’s and teen books, including the Bluebell Gadsby series and The Things We Did For Love (Faber Children’s). She was shortlisted for the Queen of Teen award in 2014.
