Macmillan Children's Books has appointed Alyx Price [left] to the role of communications director, covering Katharine Smales' maternity leave. Catherine Alport [right] is also joining as publicity manager.
Both are moving from Scholastic Children's Books, where Price is consumer, marketing and communications director while Alport is publicity officer.
Price will take up her new role on 4th March. She originally worked at Macmillan Children's Books in autumn 1998, working there for six years before leaving to travel and returning to join Scholastic in 2005, first as group PR director and then stepping into her current role.
Alport will join Macmillan Children's Books as publicity manager on 11th February. She started at Scholastic in 2010 having working at Random House for two years.
Digital and communications director Sara Lloyd said: "Alyx has the most incredible reputation in the industry as a super talented and experienced children's book publicist. Her long association with Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler as well as many other stellar children's authors and illustrators will be very welcome here. Latterly her role as consumer, marketing and communications director at Scholastic makes her doubly perfect as cover for Katharine Smales who will be massively missed whilst she is on maternity leave.
"To have Catherine come too is the icing on the cake, and I know they'll be a brilliant addition to the innovative and sparky team which Katharine has worked so hard to establish here."
At Scholastic, Penelope Beech will become acting head of marketing from 15th February, covering Price’s role. Scholastic Children’s Books m.d. Hilary Murray-Hill said a further announcement would follow.
