Penguin Random House Children’s UK has signed a three-year publishing deal to release books based on Hatchimals, a brand of toys that hatch out of an egg, produced by Canadian manufacturers Spin Master.
Editor Beth O’Leary and head of acquisitions Rich Haines signed world publishing rights, excluding North America, and will publish fiction, activity books and a collector’s guide.
The first fiction book, The Giggling Tree, will be released in May, along with the sticker book, Magical Adventures.
O’Leary said: “I am thrilled that Hatchimals will be joining the Puffin nest for publishing! Just like kids and parents everywhere, we were all completely mesmerised by these toys as soon as we saw them. After months of working to develop the Hatchimals story, I can’t wait to give children the answers to some of the mysteries still surrounding these adorable little creatures.”
Penguin Random House Children’s US will also publish a range of Hatchimals titles for the North American market.
