Penguin Random House is publishing a guide in collaboration with WWF-UK to “simple and achievable” greener living.
Due for publication in September 2018 in hardback and e-book, the collaboration was secured between Georgie Bridge and Guy Jowett at WWF, and Ajda Vucicevic and Ben Brusey at Century, an imprint of Penguin Random House.
Entitled Small Acts to Save Our World, the book will introduce readers to a host of “small everyday changes” they can make to have a big impact on the health of our planet, from oceans to forests, wildlife to climate change.
It will include short chapters on how to eat and shop for more sustainable food, reduce plastic waste and packaging, buy more ethical clothing, lower energy consumption and manage travel footprints. The book draws on decades of work and scientific research conducted by experts at WWF.
Georgie Bridge, director of brand at WWF-UK, said it was “the perfect time to unite two such iconic brands to create something that can empower people to make a difference”. The announcement comes ahead of WWF’s Earth Hour this Saturday 24th March at 8.30pm: a global movement where millions of people across the world come together to show they care about the future of our planet.
The guide will come out amid a wave of new books proposing to confront the world’s detrimental use of plastic after the success of “Blue Planet II”. The latest of these are Ebury's “eco-friendly” guide by #2minutebeachclean founded Martin Dorey, and Trapeze's Turning the Tide on Plastic by Lucy Siegle.
Vucicevic said: “Last year’s 'Blue Planet' series was a watershed moment in public awareness about the threats to our environment. We know the time is now to act before it’s too late, which is why we are delighted to be collaborating with the world’s leading conservation organization WWF. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when the problems facing us seem so big, but this book shows that every small act can make a difference. It brilliantly brings to light what we can all do, and I know will empower people everywhere to take positive action.”
WWF will be working with PRH to ensure the book is produced in a sustainable way, including 100% of the paper used being FSC certified.
