Portobello Books has signed a project Rose George, exploring our relationship with blood.
From Blood: Around the World in Nine Pints will see George looking at blood, from having her own blood analysed, to telling the story of the woman who founded the Blood Transfusion Service and the politics of donation.
Editorial director Laura Barber signed UK and Commonwealth rights from Cathryn Summerhayes at WME on proposal. US rights have been sold to Metropolitan Books.
Barber said: "Rose George consistently goes where many fear to tread, so with blood she really is in her element. Combining eye-opening investigation, vivid storytelling and calm, convincing, necessary polemic, From Blood promises to be her biggest, boldest book yet."
George has previously written Deep Sea and Foreign Going, a look at the unseen world of freight shipping, and The Big Necessity, about human waste (both Portobello).
The book will be published in 2017.
