Journalist Porter Anderson (@Porter_Anderson) is to write a weekly profile for The Bookseller with the interview conducted via Twitter.
The series, Porter Anderson Meets (#PorterMeets), begins today (18th November) at 2 p.m. with Dan Kieran (@dan_kieran), chief executive of the crowd-sourced publisher Unbound, the subject.
Anderson's write-up of the interviews will appear each Friday in The Bookseller, and will include responses to the live interview submitted on Twitter.
Philip Jones, editor of The Bookseller, said: "We've all watched as the conversation around publishing has exploded on Twitter over the past few years: we want to capture that and some of the personalities that are leading that debate. Porter Anderson has shown himself to be an astute chronicler of this scene, and we are happy to be working with him. The interview, sourced from Twitter, and re-wired for the weekly magazine, combines the best of both the old and the new in journalist approaches."
Anderson said: "I'm delighted to use Twitter as our platform for these new real-time interviews for The Bookseller because everyone can come along. The hashtag #PorterMeets will guide readers each Monday to my live talk with our subject of the week. The Bookseller's team will give our publishing players worldwide visibility during our online conversations, followed by a solid grounding in print in magazine every Friday. It's a doubly valuable meetup each time."
Anderson began his journalistic career in newspapers after an education (BA, MA, MFA) that included special studies at the University of Bath. Following years at the Village Voice, the Dallas Times Herald, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune and other papers, he went into network television as a news reader and editor at CNN and CNN International. He moved over to CNN.com as senior producer and led the editorial development of Time Warner/Turner Broadcasting's CNN.com Live. From there, he went on to production work with the United Nations (a diplomatic posting to Rome) and Copenhagen's INDEX: Design to Improve Life.
In addition to the new Porter Anderson Meets interview series, Anderson will use the hashtag #fbook13 on Thursday (21st November) to again provide live coverage of The Bookseller's The FutureBook Conference from the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster beginning at 9 a.m.
