Macmillan Children’s Books has acquired A Poem for Every Day of the Year, edited by "poetry powerhouse" Allie Esiri.
The collection, scheduled to publish on 7th September, is a companion volume to A Poem for Every Night of the Year published last year.
It will contain 366 poems, with each poem having a connection to the corresponding date in the book, and will feature well known poets such as T.S. Eliot, John Betjeman, Lewis Carroll, William Shakespeare, Carol Ann Duffy and Kate Tempest.
UK and Commonwealth rights were acquired by Gaby Morgan, editorial director 6+ Macmillan Children’s Books, from Eugenie Furniss at Furniss Lawton.
Esiri also edited poetry anthology The Love Book (Square Peg) and worked on the app iF Poems, developed by Chickworks. She said: “It's been wonderful to see A Poem For Every Night of The Year fly off the shelves. I am passionate about sharing poetry with the broadest possible audience and am beyond thrilled to work with the brilliant team at Macmillan Children's on A Poem For Every Day of the Year. Poetry washes over you, and although you might not notice it at the time, it leaves the shores of your heart a little changed.”
Morgan said: “It was such a joy to work with Allie on A Poem for Every Night of the Year and so rewarding to see how enthusiastically it was welcomed by readers. It was terrific to see how the trade supported and hand sold the first collection. I am looking forward to a rich new selection of verse treasures in this companion volume with poems to match moods, seasons and events.”
