Picture book debut to HarperCollins

HarperCollins Children’s Books has acquired three books by debut picture book author Rob Biddulph.

Publishing and creative director Rachel Denwood acquired the world rights at auction from Jodie Hodges at United Agents.

The first book, Blown Away, is a story about a penguin who, after flying on a kite to a tropical paradise, realises that his Igloo is really his home. It will be a highlight titles at Bologna 2014 next week and published in hardback in early 2015.

“We are passionate about publishing picture books that will delight young readers the world over – and we’ve struck gold with Blown Away,” said Denwood. “Rob Biddulph is an exceptional talent who writes and illustrates with electrifying flair. His debut sparked a surge of excitement at HarperCollins and we can’t wait to work with him as he creates more extraordinary books.”

Biddulph is also art director of the Observer Magazine.
