Pichon wins Blue Peter Book Award

Schoolchildren from across the country have chosen Tom Gates: Genius Ideas, Mostly by Liz Pichon as the winner of the Blue Peter Book Award for Best Story.

Meanwhile Horrible Science: House of Horrors by Nick Arnold and Tony De Saulles was the winner of the Best Book with Facts.

The winning authors received their trophies yesterday (7th March) on a special World Book Day edition of the programme.

Pichon has already won the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, Red House Book Award and Waterstones Children's Book Prize for the Tom Gates series.  She described her latest win as "absolutely amazing".

Also shortlisted were, in the Best Story category: The Boy who Swam With Piranhas by David Almond and Hero on a Bicycle by Shirley Hughes (both Walker Books); and in the Best Book with Facts category, Walter Tull's Scrapbook by Michaela Morgan (Frances Lincoln Children's Books) and Fantastic Mr Dahl by Michael Rosen (Puffin).
