Piccadilly Press has acquired a YA novel likened to Lord of the Flies and set in a Scottish commune.
World rights in Firewallers by Simon Packham were acquired by commissioning editor Ruth Williams from agent Elizabeth Roy. The title is Packham's fourth for Piccadilly Press, following his cyber crime novel Comin 2 gt u, The Bex Factor and Silenced.
Williams said: “Simon has a gift for exploring very serious themes with the lightest of touches. Firewallers looks at issues of trust and responsibility within the family and society, and packs a tremendous emotional punch."
"The island setting will bring Lord of the Flies to mind, and I think that’s deserved. This is a daring and compelling story, full of real drama.” Firewallers follows Jess, who, when her dad is suspended from work, is taken by her mum to live in a remote Scottish commune called Dawdlers.
Piccadilly will publish in spring 2013 and back publication with a "wide-ranging marketing campaign".
