Piccadilly Press has acquired a three-book illustrated fiction series for 7-9 year olds, called The Boy Who Grew Dragons, by debut author Andy Shepherd.
The series follows Tomas, a young boy who discovers dragons growing at the bottom of his grandfather’s garden, and will be illustrated throughout by illustrator Sara Ogilvie, 2011's Booktrust Best New Illustrators Award winner.
The three books in the series, The Boy Who Grew Dragons, The Boy Who Lives with Dragons and The Boy Who Flew with Dragons, will be published in 2018 and 2019.
World rights were acquired from Jo Williamson at Antony Harwood Ltd, who commented: "From their immediate enthusiasm and passion for this series, it was obvious that Piccadilly was the perfect home for Andy, Tomas and the dragons."
Commissioning editor Georgia Murray said: "This is warmhearted, funny storytelling with huge zest and charm. We’re thrilled to be publishing the very talented Andy Shepherd – and the inimitable Sara Ogilvie – on the Piccadilly list."
The book series is currently under option with independent TV production company Adastra Development Ltd, creators and producers of CBeebies’ "Grandpa in My Pocket", who are looking to develop it for television.
