Picador has signed a two-book six-figure deal with Cathy Rentzenbrink.
Rentzenbrink’s memoir The Last Act of Love was released by Picador earlier this year. The author is director of Quick Reads and associate editor at The Bookseller.
Picador editorial director Francesca Main acquired world rights to two books by Rentzenbrink from Jo Unwin at Jo Unwin Literary Agency.
The first book, A Manual for Heartache, will be a “comforting, wise and witty work of non-fiction that explores how to cope with life in the face of sadness or trauma”.
The second book, currently untitled, will be a novel about three generations of a family and the impact of a single, devastating event.
Main said: "Cathy Rentzenbrink is a force for good in the world and her bestselling memoir has moved, consoled and inspired countless readers. Her generosity of spirit and her courage, compassion and wit make her an incomparable writer of fiction and non-fiction alike. My colleagues and I could not be more proud to publish Cathy and can’t wait for the next chapter."
Rentzenbrink said: "I’ve loved every single moment of working with my editor Francesca Main and with the whole of the Picador and Pan Mac team on The Last Act of Love. They all showed such care and brilliance in bringing the book to a wide audience and supported me in every possible way through the entire publication process. I could not be more delighted that we get to do it all again."
A Manual for Heartache will be published in January 2017 and the novel in Spring 2018.
