Picador has bought a debut novel described as “One Day meets 'This Life'”.
Editorial director Francesca Main acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, to Invincible Summer by Alice Adams from Kerry Glencorse at Susanna Lea Associates.
Invincible Summer follows four friends through the highs and lows of the two decades post-university as they navigate broken hearts, lost jobs, furtive sex and thwarted dreams and discover a resilience they didn’t know they had.
Main said: “I couldn’t put this novel down and then couldn’t stop thinking about it. Poignant, funny and utterly absorbing, with four unforgettable central characters and a huge heart, Invincible Summer is a book I can’t wait to press into readers’ hands, and Alice Adams is a writer to watch.”
US rights were acquired in a pre-empt by Judy Clain at Little, Brown, with a further pre-empt from Gads in Denmark and a six-way auction currently underway in Germany.
Invincible Summer will be published as a Picador hardback in summer 2016.
