Piatkus has signed two books by Norfolk-based author Kirsty Moseley, who first published her work on Wattpad.
Anna Boatman, editorial director at Piatkus Fiction, has acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to Moseley's Fighting to Be Free and Worth Fighting For.
Fighting to Be Free was first published on Wattpad, racking up over 5.7m reads before it was made private in 2014. The sequel, Worth Fighting For, is a brand new title and both will be published alongside Hachette US in 2016. Rights have already sold in Germany, Italy, Poland and Brazil.
The books will tell of 18-year-old Jamie Cole who has recently been released from juvenile detention. A former car thief, Jamie is determined to go straight. Ellie, a bright and vivacious 17-year old, has just ended a long-term relationship with the star of her school’s football team, Miles. After years of feeling caged, the last thing she wants is something serious. She spends the night with Jamie and agrees to see him on a casual basis—but soon they both have to admit there’s nothing casual about their chemistry.
Boatman said: "I’ve been a fan of Kirsty’s work since reading The Boy Who Sneaks and I’m absolutely delighted to welcome such a successful and talented self-published author to the list."
