Piatkus is to publish two books by Irish writer Rachel Ryan, including her debut, domestic thriller Hidden Lies.
Commissioning editor Hannah Wann acquired the UK and Commonwealth rights at auction from Marianne Gunn O’Connor. Canadian rights went to Nita Pronovost at Simon & Schuster and US rights went to Sara Quaranta at Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster US.
Set in Dublin, Hidden Lies follows Georgina; after her mother dies, Georgina's son Cody begins mentioning an imaginary friend—a woman he calls "new granny".
Wann said: "This is an eerie, beautifully written thriller with an emotional punch that will take your breath away. Rachel is such an exciting debut talent and I can’t wait to get this very special novel into readers’ hands."
Ryan said: "I’m immensely excited that Hidden Lies is being published by Piatkus and that I’ve been given the privilege of working with such a fantastic team. To work with an editor as talented and passionate as Hannah has been a joy. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank my wonderful agent, Marianne Gunn O’Connor. I’m very lucky, and very excited for what’s ahead."
Hidden Lies will be published in trade paperback, e-book and audio in January 2021.
