Independent publisher Phoenix Yard Books has acquired new titles by French author and illustrator Barroux and Dave Lowe, author of My Hamster is a Genius (Templar).
Phoenix Yard publisher Emma Langley has acquired a new book in Barroux’s Big Book of How to Draw series – the Big Book of How to Draw Animals. She acquired the world rights from Kathryn Ross of Fraser Ross Associates.
“[The book} is a stylish but simple step-by-step guide to drawing with a very wide appeal,” said Langley. “Barroux has a real, rare gift for teaching: I watch him use the same techniques andmaterial with five-year-olds and college art students and he just makes everyone feel like they can draw.”
The Big Book of How to Draw Animals is scheduled for publication in spring 2015.
Langley also acquired the rights to Squirrel Boy, about a boy who gains superpowers after being bitten by radioactive squirrel, by Dave Lowe.
The book is “nuts but extremely funny” and aimed at readers aged 7-10, she said.
Langley acquired the UK and commonwealth rights from literary agent Madeleine Milburn.
