Borders UK chief executive Philip Downer has confirmed he has left the business after administrator MCR made a second wave of redundancies at the retailer's London head office.
In a short email, he said: "I can confirm I am no longer at Borders, as of yesterday afternoon [8th] - a second slimming down of HO staff has taken place. [I'm] not in a position to say much more than that at the moment."
MCR's PR firm Spreckley this afternoon confirmed that 12 employees from the retailer had been made redundant. Last week, MCR made 36 head office staff redundant with a skeleton crew of five running the book team. MCR is continuing to the trade the business through a closing down sale as it seeks a buyer for the 45 store chain.

Peter Roche, deputy chief executive of Hachette and chair of the committee set up by the Publishers Association to deal with the troubled retailer, said the administrator was being "extremely obstructive" over ROT claims.
