Phaidon is reissuing its comprehensive A–Z of international artists, The Art Book, for the first time, and adding in 100 new works.
First published in 1994, the book has sold close to 230,000 copies across all editions through the Nielsen BookScan TCM since records began in 1998. The new edition will be published as a £39.95 hardback on 10th September.
Editorial director Amanda Renshaw said the new cover look was “a brother or sister to the original, but definitely fresh”, adding that the new entries reflected how photography is now recognised as a valued art form, with work from Ansel Adams and Henri Cartier-Bresson among the inclusions.
She said: “The Art Book is 18 years old now, so it has come of age, in a way. Photography is a really new dimension to it, and there is a lot more installation art.”
