Phaidon is expanding its children’s publishing with 14 new titles in 2016.
The publisher is also aiming to increase this number to 15-20 books per annum in future years.
Phaidon is publishing seven books this Spring for the 0-8 market, all inspired by its adult categories of art, design, photography and food, and is widening its output to formats such as fold-out board books.
Children’s publishing director Cecily Kaiser said: “Phaidon has published children’s books for over 10 years, including The Silver Spoon for Children, the Petit Nicholas series, a range of Hervé Tullet's board books, as well as Tomi Ungerer’s picture books. This rich, focused backlist is primarily standard picture book and board book formats, with content that is entirely author-driven. By embracing and expanding upon these roots, our new list now features a wider array of contributors and book formats.”
The new titles, out in the Spring, include This Is Not A Book by Jean Jullien (March), Growing Together: A Collection of Four Books by Tori Gomi (April) and Harold’s Hungry Eyes by Kevin Waldron (May).
Another seven books will be released in the autumn.
Kaiser said the books come from a mix of sources – some are generated in-house, some are collaborations with existing Phaidon authors, whilst others are agented submissions or international buy-ins.
