London-based indie Beautiful Books has paid "a good five-figure sum" for world rights to a "modern reworking of the Essays of Montaigne", described by the publisher as being "in the Lynne Truss section of the bookshop".
M.d Simon Petherick acquired directly from author Paul Kent, and said it was "dry, amusing and literate discursions about themes a la Montaigne "celebrity, drink [and] ambition". Beautiful plans to publish in spring 2011.
