Penguin has been appointed the exclusive publisher for Sainsbury's Book Club, providing all titles in the promotion between July 2011 and July 2012.
Authors set to feature in the club include Marian Keyes, Clive Cussler, Jeff Kinney and Rick Riordan, with exact titles to be confirmed at a later date. The books will be featured in Book Club-branded three-sided standalone units in more than 400 Sainsbury's stores, with one side each devoted to adult, children's and cookery titles.
The adult book club will see one new title featured every two weeks, promoted in stores and on sainsburys.co.uk. Each selected title will be given six weeks exposure in the Book Club unit, as well as the usual space in the chart display section.
As part of the children's book club, the supermarket will select three frontlist children's titles (for ages 3+, 5+ and 7+) which will be rotated once a month. One title will be promoted as the "Book of the Month", with the other two to be merchandised as "Recommended".
Penguin group sales director Mike Symons said: "The Sainsbury's Book Club has been a tremendous vehicle in promoting books to the Sainsbury's consumer. We are thrilled to be exclusively partnering with Sainsbury's on this and believe that the Penguin brand will further complement the book club."
Sainsbury's buying manager Phil Carroll added: "Penguin was a natural partner for us, given the breadth and depth of their offer and the fact their fiction and cookery books are already hugely popular with our customers."
The book club was launched in 2009 and is aimed at promoting debuts and brand name authors. HarperCollins and Random House have both been previous publishing partners to the club.
