Penguin acquires publishing rights to Hey Duggee

Penguin has acquired the publishing rights to "Hey Duggee", a new pre-school children’s TV programme created by Studio AKA for Cbeebies and BBC Worldwide.

The TV showis set at a children's playgroup called the Squirrel Club and is run by a big friendly dog called Duggee, who teaches children about being responsible and working as a team while having fun. It is narrated by Alexander Armstrong and will launch on CBeebies in January.

Penguin will publish a range of picture, activity and novelty books for children aged 3-6 under the Ladybird imprint.

Juliet Matthews, publishing director at Penguin Children’s, acquired the world book rights in all languages from BBC Worldwide.

“As soon as we saw 'Hey Duggee' we knew that we had to publish it,” she said. “It is visually captivating and there is nothing quite like it on the pre-school market at the moment.”
