Exeter-based independent children's publisher Pedigree is expanding its education range based on licensed characters, with titles featuring Postman Pat, Barbie and Angry Birds due this year.
“We dipped our toes into the educational market last year and were amazed by the result, as the level of sales completely surpassed our expectations,” says Matthew Reynolds, publishing and sales director at Pedigree Books. “It is therefore an obvious decision to launch more titles and we have some very strong brands lined up. These will combine with solid educational content to provide books that kids enjoy reading and also help them during the crucial early years of learning.”
Pedigree has licence agreements with DreamWorks, Barbie, Angry Birds, WWE and Postman Pat and developed the content with educational publisher Lett’s. It will launch 10 titles in June this year: Postman Pat 0-2yrs Early Learning, Postman Pat 3-5yrs Starting School, Barbie 5-7yrs Maths, Barbie 5-7yrs English, Dreamworks 5-7yrs Maths, Dreamworks 5-7yrs English, Angry Birds7-11yrs Maths, Angry Birds 7-11yrs English, WWE 7-11yrs Maths and WWE 7-11yrs English. All the books will be priced at £5.99.
Last year the company published four educational titles based on Dreamworks characters.
“These books use existing Letts material in line with previous school’s curriculum, so are designed to support school learning at home,” said the company. “We have taken content that is relevant for current school’s curriculum though.”
