Pearson buys testing business for $42m

<p>Pearson has acquired professional testing business Promissor from Houghton Mifflin for $42m in cash. Pearson plans to combine Promissor with Pearson VUE, its existing professional testing company.

Promissor provides licensing examinations for state and federal regulatory bodies in the US in industries from real estate to healthcare. It also has a growing presence in the UK, with contracts for organisations including City and Guilds. Pearson VUE's contracts include the National Council of State Boards of Nursing in the US and the Driving Standards Agency in the UK.
