Pavilion to open a bookshop in London

Pavilion is set to open a new shop called Books Pavilion in London’s Covent Garden.

The publisher will open the shop this Saturday 14th November, showcasing its broad range of “high-quality and beautifully produced illustrated books” in time for the Christmas shopping season. The store also has an events space and will open between 11am – 7pm Monday –Saturday.

Polly Powell, owner and publisher of Pavilion, said: “We opened a pop-up shop some years ago in Kensington High Street and it was an enlightening experience – all the staff took a turn behind the till and learnt an awful lot about our business. Now, we are opening a permanent shop – Books Pavilion - in Shorts Gardens, Covent Garden, not far from the office, in order to showcase our beautiful books.”

She added: “For me, it is going back to my roots – when I left university the first thing I did was open a shop in Manchester in the 1980s selling clothes to the Hacienda crowd. I sold that shop for £400 good will – hopefully we’ll make a better return at Books Pavilion.”

All staff at the London-based independent publisher will spend time in the shop in an effort to learn more about the needs of their customers, and the difficulties that high street retailers face, Pavilion said.
