Thriller writer James Patterson has launched interactive novel The Chef in the UK with Facebook's Creative Shop and experiential content producer 1stAveMachine. Designed for use on mobile and social media, the "one-of-a-kind" literary experience promises in-depth user engagement as the adapted novel's narrative unravels in a series of interactive audio and visuals.
The Chef can be viewed here. The book's content will be released through Facebook Messenger and reads like a chat conversation, populating as you scroll down. Meanwhile, at key moments, the narrative will switch to a video, image, or audio recording, giving users a more interactive experience.
It launched in the US on 30th October, and in the UK, Europe, and other territories on 1st November. The Chef will also be published as a traditional novel, in hardback, in February 2019 (by PRH in the UK, by Hachette in the US).
Patterson commented: "I’ve really enjoyed thinking through the possibilities for the future of storytelling… and I can’t wait to share it with you."
Also announced this week, Patterson is to appear at the 2019 Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate next July.
