Akash Chittranshi, the Publishers Association's legal counsel in India, died unexpectedly on 16th October. Chittranshi has been behind a string of high-profile anti-piracy operations in India, since he took on the role in 2001.
The Publishers Association said: "We are all terribly shocked by this news and will miss him dreadfully. For many years he gave us sage advice on the intricacies of IP protection in India but most importantly he gave us his cheerful good humour and vibrant personality - we have lost a real friend. Our thoughts are with his family, his colleagues at aca-law and IP-boutique and of course his many friends throughout the global publishing industry."
Brought up in Kanpur and Lucknow in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Chittranshi qualified as a lawyer in 1994.
