Paris attacks: France issues 'reading list' to aid understanding

The French Booksellers Association (Syndicat de la Librairie Française, SLF) has published a list of recommended reading to help the public understand the origins and consequences of the Islamist terrorist attacks that have rocked France this year.

The list was put together by a group of booksellers after the 13th November attacks in Paris, which left 130 people dead, and is aimed at booksellers, libraries, associations, the media and the general public.

The list covers a number of themes and disciplines, including ISIS, terrorism, radicalisation and fundamentalism, history and geography of the Near East, Islam and religion, psychoanalysis and philosophy, literature and books for adolescents and young adults.

This year’s events “have brutally reminded us” that booksellers are a central point for resources, meetings, exchange of views, freedom and expression of ideas and creation, noted SLF director Guillaume Husson.
