Paralympics competition from Harvill Secker

Harvill Secker is running a Twitter competition during the Paralympics offering people the chance to win books from countries winning medals. The competition highlights the Random House imprint's wide spread of international literature.

Copies of The Last Quarter of the Moon by Chi Zijian are being given away in honour of the first gold medal of the Games being awarded to China (in shooting). Another giveaway will mark the country winning the most medals.

Harvill Secker's Alison Hennessey said: “It’s always exciting to find new and interesting ways of making links to books you know and love and, in doing so, bring them to the attention of new readers."

The Paralympics opening ceremony on Wednesday (29th August) also reflected the world of books, drawing inspiration from Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time (Transworld), using passages from Shakespeare's The Tempest, and making books a prominent feature of the stadium's set design.
