Pan Macmillan is to publish Uprooted, the new novel from fantasy writer Naomi Novik.
Editorial director Julie Crisp acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Del Rey, part of Penguin Random House in the US.
Novik is the author of the Temeraire series, published in the UK by Harper Voyager.
Her new novel follows Agnieszka, who lives in a quiet village bordered by a corrupted wood full of malevolent power. Her people rely on the cold wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay, but for his services he demands one young woman handed over to serve him for 10 years.
The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka thinks that the Dragon will take the beautiful Kasia, Agnieszka’s best friend.
Crisp said: “I have been a huge fan of Naomi’s since reading the first novel in her thrilling Temeraire series. When I read her fantasy Uprooted I was absolutely blown away by the beautifully-written and richly-imagined world - it is in every way an enchanting read.”
Pan Macmillan will publish in July 2015.
