Pan Mac wins 'Dragons' Den' memoir

Pan Macmillan has won a "heated auction" involving 10 publishers to buy businesswoman and BBC2 "Dragons' Den" star Hilary Devey's autobiography.

Editorial director Ingrid Connell bought UK and Commonwealth rights in the title for a six-figure sum from Jonathan Conway of Mulcahy Conway Associates. Pan Mac will publish in spring 2012.

Devey founded haulage business Pall-Ex, which now has an annual turnover of more than £100m. The book will follow both her personal and professional life, and her journey from a tough childhood in Bolton to being an entrepreneurial icon on "Dragons' Den".

Connell said: "Hilary's story is extraordinary—powerful, moving and funny. I love the material I've seen so far and I know the finished book will be as inspirational as the woman herself."
