Pan Mac makes e-books available to schools

Pan Macmillan is making its e-books available to UK schools through digital education provider RM Books.

The partnership means e-books by authors such as Chris Riddell, Eva Ibbotson and Andy Griffiths, and the poet Brian Moses will be accessible to be read on the platform, aling with a selection of textbooks, topic books and ficiton e-books from educational and trade publishers of different sizes.

Alan Hodgin, head of RM Books, said the company was delighted to have Pan Macmillan's support for its licences and rental terms.

The sevice means teachers in both primary and secondary schools can allocate books to individuals or groups, or create a whole school e-library. The platform also has additional reporting and annotation functions that allow teachers to track reading progress, check comprehension and "enrich students’ learning experience".

“We are delighted to be working with Pan Macmillan,” said Hodgin. “The Pan Macmillan list is a great list, with best-selling authors and classic titles that no school library should be without. We are also delighted that Pan Macmillan is supporting our range of licences and rental terms. We are very proud of the fact that RM Books is the only ebook platform that has been designed specifically to support and enhance the ways that teachers use books to promote literacy and reading for pleasure; our range of licences and rental terms are a key aspect of that.”

Anna Bond, UK sales director for Pan Macmillan added: “We are delighted to partner with RM Books in order to help school librarians and teachers to spread the joy of reading for pleasure. We hope that the platform will allow school students to try new authors as well as enjoy their favourite books inside and outside the classroom.”

Pan Macmillan already has relationships with NATE (National Association for Teaching English), ASCEL (Association of Senior Children's and Education Librarians) and the SLA (School Libraries Association) and is a key sponsor of the annual School Librarian of the Year Award and Pupil Library Assistant of the Year Award.
