Pan Macmillan has bought two new novels by "Coronation Street" writer Jonathan Harvey.
Publishing director Wayne Brookes acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, including Canada, from Gordon Wise at Curtis Brown.
Harvey's debut, All She Wants, was published in August 2012, with his second novel, The Confusion of Karen Carpenter, to be published next year.
Brookes said: "Working on the first two novels with Jonathan Harvey really was a dream come true. All She Wants was a fabulous success for Pan Macmillan, and we have even bigger plans for The Confusion of Karen Carpenter. These aren’t just comedy novels; they are novels with real heart.
"Two of the hardest things to do when writing fiction are to make a reader laugh or make them cry. If you can do both in the same book, then that’s what I call real talent. . . I’m very excited about what comes next."
