The Publishers Association is launching a dispute mediation service for publishers and associated companies.
The new mediation service, via company MEDIAtion, aims to provides alternative solutions to potentially costly court cases.
Richard Mollet, chief executive of The Publishers Association, said: “We actively encourage our members to consider mediation as a way of resolving disputes. This service is part of our commitment to strengthening the business environment for publishing, helping companies avoid the huge costs associated with protracted legal battles.”
MEDIAtion will be able to help with conflict situations involving authors, printers, distributors, contracts, intellectual property and staff, and will tackle issues such as interdepartmental disputes. Rooms will be available for mediation meetings at the Publishers Association and there will be free access to a case management service, which includes arranging a venue, preparation of the mediation agreement and the coordination of all logistics.
Jenny Boyce of MEDIAtion said: “We are passionate about mediation because it works. We want the publishing community to be able to access the service easily and cost-effectively. Mediation is the only sensible way to resolve disputes and we can help businesses and individuals at any stage of a dispute.”
Boyce, the founder of MEDIAtion, has over 25 years experience in book publishing and has been an accredited commercial mediator since 2007, mediating a wide range of disputes.
