Oxfam to hold a second Bookfest

<p>Oxfam has announced that it is to hold a second book festival with poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy, Jeanette Winterson and &quot;Bob the Builder&quot; taking part in events this summer. The charity&#39;s inaugural book festival was held last year.<br /><br />Oxfam Bookfest will take place from 3rd-17th July 2010, with 700 Oxfam shops taking part. Events include Jason Bradbury and Jeanette Winterson appearing at Leeds Carriage Works, Bob the Builder at Glasgow Concert Hall, and Eoin Colfer, Joss Ackland, Simon Singh and William Dalrymple at Bristol Old Vic. Duffy will appear in Didsbury.<br /><br />The charity is hoping to generate &quot;more than &pound;500,000 additional book sales over the summer&quot; through the festival.</p><p>The Bookfest will be launched by a 24-hour &quot;Readathon&quot; at Oxfam&#39;s flagship bookshop in Marylebone, London on 5th July. </p><p>Author Joanna Trollope who will be helping to launch the festival, said: &quot;It was wonderful to be involved in the launch of Oxfam&#39;s first Bookfest last year&mdash;especially as it raised so much for so many vital projects. And I&#39;m more than pleased to be part of the launch of this year&#39;s Bookfest, too, a 24 hour Readathon, which we all hope will be an even greater success in spreading the word, and attracting support for all Oxfam&#39;s imaginative and effective work&quot;</p><p>Oxfam Bookfest will again be run in association with the Hay Festival and Oxfam will be on site at the festival. </p>
