Military history publisher Osprey Publishing is to create a dedicated games division to develop new products in miniature wargaming, board and card games.
The company began to focus on miniatures wargaming in 2008 with the release of Field of Glory, a rules system for anyone interested in recreating the battles of the ancient and medieval worlds on their tabletop, created in collaboration with game developer Slitherine Strategies. This was followed by products including Renaissance and Napoleonic versions of the Field of Glory rules, and more recently, the Bolt Action World War II Rules, created with Warlord Games.
Philip Smith, games manager for the new Osprey Games division, said: "Osprey and wargaming have always been the proverbial 'two great tastes that taste great together', and the growing range of wargaming products has met with a fantastic reception from gamers. The creation of Osprey Games means that gaming is going to be getting a lot more attention, and I've already got some very exciting projects on the drawing board."
Osprey is also recruiting a games developer to manage the development of board and card games, which the publisher said would see it "applying Osprey's reputation for high-quality artwork to a whole new market."
Osprey Publishing m.d. Richard Sullivan said the area would be "another exciting niche where we can provide top-quality product for our customers, old and new alike."
