Orion Children’s Books has acquired a new novel by German author Cornelia Funke, known for her Inkworld series.
Fiona Kennedy m.d. and publisher acquired UK and Commonweath rights to Ghost Knight via Jenny Savill at Andrew Nurnberg Associates. Little, Brown acquired English-speaking rights for North America.
The novel follows 11-year-old Jon Whitcroft, a boarding school pupil who must uncover the secrets of a centuries-old murder with his new friend Ella, while being haunted by ghosts intent on revenge. Jon summons the ghost of the knight Longspee for his protection—but can the ghost really be trusted?
Funke said: “I am so thrilled that Orion will bring Ghost Knight to printed life in the UK this winter! I very much hope that my story will bring children from many corners of the world to see all the beautiful places that inspired me to write this knight's story—Salisbury, Kilmington, Lacock Abbey and of course Stonehenge.”
Kennedy said: “I’m delighted to welcome Cornelia to the Orion Children’s list with this wonderfully imagined, classic ghost story, perfect for reading at Christmas and all year round.”
Orion will publish as an illustrated hardback in November 2012. Funke’s previous novels were published by Chicken House.
