Orion signs Davina McCall sugar-free cookbook

Orion has bought a sugar-free recipe book by television presenter Davina McCall.

Amanda Harris, deputy publisher non-fiction, acquired world rights to Davina’s Five Weeks to Sugar Free from Rowan Lawton at Furniss Lawton. The book is the first of three from McCall.

It will document how McCall managed to banish sugar from her life as well as offering advice, tips and recipe ideas for the whole family.

Harris said: “I’m so excited to launch Davina’s book publishing career at Orion. This is the first of three books and its subject matter couldn’t be more timely. Davina is one of us: she’s not a guru, she’s a busy, working mother-of-three who understands how hard it is to stop the refined sugar habit. Her sugar-free recipes are unique because they are simple to cook, the ingredients are familiar and available from any High Street supermarket, and they are utterly delicious. It’s the only sugar-free cookbook that doesn’t preach. Davina inspires.”

McCall said: “Every time I pick up a magazine, I read another horrifying fact about sugar. I was a committed sugar addict until I managed to stop for three years, only to take it up again with gusto after my challenge. This book shows you how I finally quit but still get to eat lovely puddings.”

Orion said there will be an extensive publicity campaign, including a major newspaper serialisation and author interviews on national TV and radio, to coincide with the book’s launch.

Davina’s Five Weeks to Sugar Free will be published as a trade paperback at £14.99 and e-book at £7.99 on 15th January 2015.
