Orion has pre-empted two psychological suspense novels by debut author R S Pateman, signing a six-figure deal with Oliver Munson at Blake Friedmann.
Editor Jemima Forrester bought UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada from Munson, with the first title, The Second Life of Amy Archer, to be published in June 2013 in hardback, trade paperback and e-book.
The book is described as a "dark, high-concept psychological thriller about Beth, a woman whose ten-year-old daughter Amy disappeared without a trace ten years ago". On the anniversary of her disappearance, Beth is introduced to little girl who is the uncanny double of her missing daughter-but she hasn't aged a day, yet knows things only Amy would remember. The plot follows Beth as she is forced to find out the truth about what happened to Amy.
Forrester said: "I am utterly delighted to have acquired this stand-out debut. R S. Pateman is an exceptionally talented writer and an exciting new voice in British psychological suspense. The Second Life of Amy Archer is a taut, chilling novel that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. There has been unanimous enthusiasm for this in-house and it will be a major debut for us in 2013."
